Job Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing organization based in the Lemont/Woodridge, IL area. Our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Logistics Sr. Coordinator to support transportation and freight operations.
This role is critical in ensuring timely, cost-effective, and reliable product delivery while optimizing carrier performance and driving continuous improvement across supply chain operations. You will report directly to the VP of Operations and VP of IT.
Key Responsibilities Carrier Performance & Freight Management of Sr Logistic Coordinator
- Monitor carrier on-time delivery performance, premium freight usage, and potential customer delivery disruptions.
- Prepare and distribute monthly carrier performance scorecards.
- Review freight cost trends and maintain freight rate charts and analysis
- Monitor industry and market trends to identify risks and opportunities in transportation.
Carrier Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Initiate and manage freight RFQs with existing and potential carriers.
- Evaluate and support the onboarding of new carriers (bulk, dry van, ocean freight).
- Participate in second-party audits of carriers and wash facilities.
- Conduct non-conformance investigations and root cause analysis with carriers to support corrective actions.
Cost Control & Operational Support
- Coordinate freight invoice discrepancy resolution with accounting and support cost-savings initiatives.
- Oversee the Shipping and Receiving team, including drafting loading schedules and executing daily transportation activities (bulk truck scaling, FTL/LTL shipment processing, shipping documentation).
- Ensure accurate and compliant Export documentation, including export compliance requirements.
- Coordinate free sample shipments and special transportation requests.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements Sr Logistic Coordinator
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree OR 2–5 years of relevant logistics/transportation experience.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis and reporting).
- Industry Knowledge:
- Knowledge of National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), freight classes, density-based classifications, and LTL tariff structures.
- Working knowledge of U.S. DOT PHMSA regulations governing hazardous materials transportation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. export compliance requirements (export documentation, denied party screening, trade regulations).
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with ERP, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), or other logistics software.
- IATF certification as a second-party auditor
