GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the CEO, the Principal of the Multi-family Studio is responsible for operations, staff performance, financial profitability, staff development and growth of his/her group, consistent with LDI’s polices and approved business plan. Oversee the Group’s Associate Principals, Designers and Project Managers and assure technical and financial performance of all projects to meet Quality & Cost Assurance standards. Oversee the Group’s organizational staff development and administer LDI’s policies and programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the Group, facing challenges, solving problems, and motivating teams
- Develop and implement the Group’s business plan to strengthen market position
- Build and maintain client relationships, serving as a Client Sponsor
Business & Financial Management
- Review and approve all bids, proposals, and contracts for accuracy and profitability
- Negotiate pricing, work scope, and terms in alignment with company policies
- Supervise financial operations, including billings, variances, and write-offs
Talent Development & Team Management
- Oversee career development plans, training programs, and evaluations
- Manage all personnel decisions, including hiring, promotions, and salary reviews
Design & Project Execution
- Lead programming, feasibility studies, and construction administration
- Ensure high-quality designs that meet client expectations without impacting profitability
- Stamp and seal drawings as a licensed architect; obtain additional licenses as needed
- Provide technical guidance and support for Associate Principals and Project Managers
Growth & Market Position
- Market company services in coordination with leadership teams
- Secure new business opportunities to maintain steady project flow
- Monitor key performance indicators and optimize labor utilization
- Uphold compliance with state/local codes, accessibility requirements, and industry standards

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position will require up to 50% local travel
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be responsible for the supervision of Associate Principals, Designers, and Project Managers.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), preferably in Architecture, or related field
Architectural License: Required license in all states where projects are located
Experience:
- 15 year’s exp. in Multi-family low-rise and high-rise projects
- Proven Business Development experience is a must
Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in REVIT, MS Office required, Photoshop and/or InDesign a plus
Building Type: multi-family/mixed-use high-density
