Design Engineer – Powertrain / Engine Systems

What You'll Be Doing
As a Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing and developing engine and powertrain components from concept through production while working closely with cross-functional engineering teams and suppliers.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and present design status, technical findings, and key performance metrics.
- Design components that meet targets for cost, weight, durability, manufacturability, and performance.
- Develop engineering countermeasures based on testing, analysis, supplier feedback, and design evaluations.
- Collaborate with drivetrain, vehicle, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and assembly teams throughout the product development process.
- Manage North American suppliers to ensure quality components are delivered on time for each program milestone.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, quality, and delivery performance.
- Benchmark competitive products and designs to improve cost competitiveness and customer value.
- Support design validation, issue resolution, and continuous product improvement activities.
Travel: Approximately 10% (domestic and international)
Overtime: Approximately 20%
What You'll Need to Be Successful
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or higher).
- 4 years of automotive product design or development experience.
- Strong CAD modeling experience and working knowledge of GD&T.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrain systems.
- Experience designing engine or powertrain components.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Experience designing ICE systems, including:
- Lubrication systems
- Belt drive systems
- Timing chain covers
- Fuel systems
- Cooling systems
- Intake systems
- Exhaust systems
- Knowledge of aluminum and iron castings, forgings, stampings, and thermoplastics.
- Experience with Creo, WBDM, and engineering analysis tools such as FEA, CFD, or GT-Power.
- Hands-on engine or powertrain assembly experience.
- Advanced GD&T knowledge and familiarity with ICE and transmission manufacturing processes.
- Experience using DRBFM methodology.
- Understanding of Quality Management and Supply Chain principles.
- Experience working within global or multicultural engineering teams.
- Production engineering experience.
