Overview

At Microsoft AI, we are forging the future of brand and product experience by bringing the spirit and substance of brand identity seamlessly into our AI Companion products. Our vision is to craft a cohesive, resonant personality for Copilot-one that is not only emotionally intelligent and trustworthy, but consistently expressed across every interaction and surface. Join a collaborative team that empowers creative leaders to bridge the boundaries between product design, brand design, and engineering, redefining how people connect with technology.

We are an agile, multidisciplinary team that values bold creativity, integrity, and a relentless focus on the user. Our work is anchored in the belief that impactful brands are built through meaningful, consistent, and delightful experiences-across product, visual, and communication touchpoints. Each member is encouraged to champion new ideas, striving for simplicity and unified expression at every level of the design process.

Starting January 26, 2026, MAI employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) or 25 miles (non-U.S., country-specific) of that location. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Our Core Values

  • Quality: We deliver memorable, differentiated brand experiences that inspire confidence and joy.
  • Simplicity: We translate complex ideas into clear, elegant brand expressions.
  • Safety & Security: We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of responsibility and trust.
  • Evaluation: We test, measure, and refine our brand and design decisions using real data and user feedback.
  • Kindness: We nurture a creative, inclusive, and supportive design culture.

We are seeking a visionary and collaborative Principal Brand Designer who thrives at the intersection of product and brand design. You will lead and inspire cross-functional teams to translate brand identity into every aspect of our product experience, ensuring that our brand principles not only guide visual and narrative expression but are intricately woven into the design system and realized through engineering implementation. Your unique blend of creative leadership and systems thinking will drive a unified, compelling brand presence across all Copilot touchpoints. This is a hands-on, player/coach role-perfect for a creative leader who is as passionate about craft and concept as about mentorship and strategic execution.

  • Guide the Journey
  • Personality is Pivotal
  • Always be Earning Trust
  • Sweat the Details
  • Be in Service to People

  • Drive collaboration between brand, product, and engineering, connecting the dots from brand principles to design system to engineering implementation for a unified and scalable ecosystem.
  • Deliver world-class brand experiences in AI applications, with a focus on craft, narrative, quality, and positive societal impact.
  • Develop and evolve a robust, flexible design system that embodies the brand and can be efficiently implemented by engineering teams across diverse products and platforms.
  • Own and articulate the product's visual and verbal style, collaborating with marketing, engineering, UX, and research partners to maintain consistency and excellence.
  • Communicate and collaborate across teams, managing dependencies, schedules, and design integrity from concept through implementation.
  • Mentor and inspire designers, setting high standards for creative excellence, inclusivity, and professional growth.
  • Translate business and brand goals into visionary strategies, actionable roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
