Role Summary: This role ensures company-wide compliance with food safety and regulatory standards, including programs such as SQF, GlobalG.A.P., USDA, and FDA requirements, by validating risk assessments, maintaining documentation, and conducting regular inspections across warehouses and orchards. The position manages safety systems and reporting by tracking training, documenting nonconformances, supporting audits, and providing monthly updates and insights to leadership. Additionally, the role supports grower compliance and engagement by maintaining certifications, verifying records, coordinating safety resources, and contributing to continuous improvement through collaboration, training, and oversight of export and MRL programs.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Ensure all departments in the warehouse/orchards comply to various food safety standards; SQF, Global GAP, USDA GHP, FDA Preventative Controls, Produce Safety Rule, etc.
- Validate and verify food safety risk assessments and documents
- Manage updates for risk assessments, policies and procedures
- Perform monthly food safety inspections and document nonconformances
- Perform monthly security inspection of the orchards and document nonconformances
- Perform quarterly security threat assessment of the orchards and document nonconformances
- Manage the monthly safety training matrix to keep current and relevant
- Update the Executive Team monthly regarding safety results and trends.
- Assist in gathering and preparing safety and training information into a usable and logical format for presentation to the safety committee, Human Resource department and the Leadership Team
- Attend meetings with the Director of Safety to discuss goals for the week and review the calendar to be able to assist with preparation for upcoming events/meetings
- Attend meetings as requested, record minutes, type them, and send them to all those involved
- Become an active member in the safety committee
- Create positive relationships with the management teams, safety committee, supervisors, and hourly staff
- Attend various training opportunities as they relate to Food Safety/People Safety
- May be required to travel to various orchards and warehouses from time to time
- Maintain a list of all growers who are certified in the group.
- Maintain current organic certificates for all growers providing us with organic fruit.
- Verifying organic certificate matches growers’ name in database,
- Verify that varieties on estimates and received data matches grower organic certificates.
- Ensure spray records are present for all varieties and lots.
- Manually enter spray records for growers who do not utilize an online platform.
- Work with grower accounting for charges to growers for manual entries.
- Provide growers with safety postings and our training documents as needed.
- Be aware of industry training and provide growers with information of training.
- Oversee the MRL/export program
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
· Bachelors degree in related field required
· At least 2-3 years prior work experience as a Food Safety Manager or Safety Manager.
