Ready to work on infrastructure that truly matters? Lee County Utilities is seeking a Wellfield Project Manager who enjoys solving technical challenges, working in the field and the office, and helping deliver safe, reliable drinking water to the community.


This role sits at the intersection of engineering, hydrogeology, operations, and project management. You’ll support the planning, operation, and maintenance of critical groundwater systems—production wells, monitoring wells, injection wells, and Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) systems while collaborating with engineers, geologists, contractors, and regulators.


This isn’t a desk-only job. It’s hands-on, technical, and impactful.

Duties and Responsibilities


What You’ll Do

As a Wellfield Project Manager, you will:

  • Coordinate and support well-related projects, including design, permitting, construction, repair, and rehabilitation
  • Assist with regulatory compliance and permitting with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Collect, manage, and analyze groundwater data, including:
  • Monitoring well water levels
  • Water quality sampling results
  • Production well pumping and performance data
  • Assist with inspections, failure investigations, and troubleshooting of:
  • Production wells
  • Monitoring wells
  • Injection wells
  • ASR wells
  • Assist with management of well systems, including testing, repairs, and system modifications
  • Coordinate and support consultants and contractors performing well design, construction, and repairs
  • Supervise and evaluate Well Operations tradesworkers
  • Manage well operations vehicles, tools, shop activities, and inventory
  • Review design and construction plans, specifications, and technical reports
  • Communicate effectively with internal staff, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Reports major activities through meetings and written reports

Work is performed under the guidance of a professional engineer, geologist, or administrative supervisor, with success measured by project results, data quality, and system performance.

Education, Experience, Licensing


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in engineering, construction, hydrogeology, public works, or a related field
  • Valid Florida Class E driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of water well mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Experience with telemetry, SCADA, and water quality sampling
  • Experience managing water and wastewater capital improvement projects
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and instrumentation communication software
  • Engineering Intern (EI) license issued by the State of Florida
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Geologist In-Training (GI)


Additional Information:

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices for water and wastewater utilities
  • Ability to review and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Knowledge of inspection and testing procedures for utility systems and treatment plants
  • Skilled in project coordination, communication, and customer service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to perform field inspections as needed
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, hydraulic modeling, and project scheduling software is preferred

Work Schedule & Benefits

  • Monday–Friday schedule (typically 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.)
