Physical Education Teacher
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
NOTE: This position will include an athletic coaching assignment, subject to district needs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Equipment: Uses standard classroom, gymnasium, and office equipment, including computers, instructional technology, physical education equipment, and related materials.
Travel Requirements: Travel to district buildings, professional learning activities, and school-related events as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Work occurs in classroom, gymnasium, field, and outdoor environments; requires standing, walking, physical demonstration of activities, supervision of students, and occasional lifting of equipment. Evening or extended hours may be required for extracurricular assignments.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide instruction aligned with district curriculum and Georgia Standards of Excellence in physical education, fitness, and health-related activities.
- Plan and deliver instruction in individual, dual, and team sports and physical activities using appropriate instructional strategies.
- Differentiate instruction and provide individual or small-group support to meet student needs, including students with disabilities, in accordance with IEPs and Section 504 plans.
- Provide adapted physical education instruction as required.
- Ensure student safety by conducting safety checks of equipment, facilities, and activity areas and providing appropriate safety instruction.
- Maintain control and proper use of equipment, supplies, and storage areas.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to support a safe and productive learning environment.
- Assess and document student progress in physical skills, fitness, and participation in accordance with district procedures.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and expectations.
- Supervise students during instructional and assigned non-instructional activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student health, wellness, and overall development.
- Participate in required professional learning and maintain professional competence.
- Support school programs and activities, including assigned extracurricular responsibilities.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Principal or designee consistent with certification and district expectations.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and best practices in physical education.
- Knowledge of student supervision, safety standards, and risk management in physical activity settings.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws, including IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and O.C.G.A. Title 20.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage instructional activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to maintain professional judgment and ethical conduct in accordance with GaPSC Ethics Rule 505-6-.01.
- Ability to use instructional technology and district data systems as required.

Qualifications Profile
Certification / License
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification appropriate to the Teaching as a Profession / CTAE assignment, or eligibility through an approved pathway.
- Must meet certification requirements under O.C.G.A.
- 20-2-200.
- Must maintain GaPSC ethics clearance, fingerprinting, and background check requirements.
- Valid driver's license or ability to provide transportation.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Physical Education or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Prior successful teaching and coaching experience is preferred.
