Cost Accountant

Job Summary

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on costs related to production, operations, or projects to support financial decision‑making and improve profitability. This role works closely with Operations, Finance, and management to ensure accurate cost reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and monitor product, project, or operational costs, including labor, materials, and overhead
• Maintain and update cost accounting systems, standards, and methodologies
• Prepare cost reports, variance analyses, and dashboards for management review
• Analyze manufacturing or operational variances and identify root causes
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to costs and margins
• Assist with inventory valuation, standard cost updates, and cycle counts
• Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to improve cost efficiency
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile cost‑related general ledger accounts
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
• Support internal and external audits by preparing cost schedules and documentation
• Assist with process improvements and cost‑reduction initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2-5 years of cost accounting or related accounting experience
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, budgeting, and variance analysis
• Experience with ERP or accounting systems (manufacturing or project‑based systems preferred)
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
• Ability to communicate financial information to non‑finance stakeholders
