Controller

Overview

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for multiple real estate entities. This hands‑on role manages daily accounting functions, ensures accurate financial reporting, and supports complex partnership tax structures. The ideal candidate brings strong GAAP knowledge, supervisory experience, and a deep understanding of real estate accounting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, cash management, intercompany transactions, and month‑end close with full balance sheet reconciliations.
• Review and approve invoices, payments, wires, and journal entries while ensuring the accuracy of financial records across multiple real estate entities.
• Prepare, analyze, and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; maintain internal controls; ensure GAAP compliance; and support lender reporting, audits, and financial reviews.
• Lead partnership tax processes, prepare and review tax workpapers, coordinate multi‑tier partnership returns, and track partner allocations, capital accounts, and distributions.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and enhancements to accounting procedures and systems.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while collaborating with development, asset management, acquisitions, and senior leadership teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA strongly preferred
• 7 years of progressive accounting experience in real estate
• Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and multi‑tier structures
• Experience with job costing, WIP, capitalization, depreciation, and real estate entity accounting
• Prior supervisory or Controller‑track experience required
• Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, Power Query)
• Experience with ERP and real estate accounting systems
• Strong written, verbal, and collaborative communication abilities
• Solid GAAP knowledge
