Position Title: Elementary Counselor (K-3)
Location: Wolcott Street School
Start Date: Anticipated Opening for the 2026-27 School Year
Reports To: Building Principal
Classification: Full-Time, Probationary Position
Position Overview:
The Wolcott Street School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of students in grades K-3. The counselor works collaboratively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to create a positive and supportive school environment that promotes student success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group counseling services to support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
- Assist students in developing self-awareness, self-regulation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Respond to student crises and provide appropriate interventions and referrals.
- Support students experiencing challenges related to attendance, peer relationships, family changes, anxiety, grief, and other social-emotional concerns.
School-Wide Programming:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state and national counseling standards.
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, character education, bullying prevention, and career awareness.
- Promote a positive school climate through proactive programming and student support initiatives.
- Coordinate and support school-wide activities that foster student engagement and belonging.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, psychologists, social workers, and other support staff to address student needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, student support teams, and intervention planning.
- Consult with families regarding student concerns and strategies to support student success.
- Facilitate communication between home and school when appropriate.
Family and Community Engagement:
- Serve as a resource for families by providing information, support, and referrals to community agencies and services.
- Partner with families to address barriers to student learning and well-being.
- Assist with transition planning for students entering or leaving the elementary setting.
Data and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Use data to identify student needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and guide interventions.
- Support attendance initiatives and student wellness efforts.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Valid School Counselor certification/licensure required.
- Knowledge of child development, social-emotional learning, and evidence-based counseling practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
