Overview
LCP is seeking a highly detail-oriented and operationally driven Transportation Specialist to manage and optimize driver scheduling within our Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) network. This role is responsible for ensuring all trips are properly assigned, efficiently routed, and fully optimized within your assigned territory.
Success in this role requires a deep understanding of driver capacity, vehicle types, and regional scheduling dynamics. You will actively manage and adjust schedules in real time to maximize driver productivity, ensure compliance with trip requirements, and maintain a high level of service reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Own trip assignment within your territory, ensuring all trips are accurately assigned to the appropriate drivers with zero gaps in coverage
- Maximize driver utilization by ensuring each driver is fully loaded and operating at optimal capacity throughout their shift
- Apply strategic routing and multi-loading techniques, combining trips where appropriate to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Develop a working knowledge of each driver’s schedule, vehicle type, and limitations (wheelchair, ambulatory, geography, availability) to make informed assignment decisions
- Prioritize and protect TCS-required trips, ensuring all non-delegable trips are covered internally and scheduled appropriately
- Continuously evaluate and adjust schedules in real time to respond to cancellations, delays, and changing business needs
- Collaborate closely with drivers and internal teams to coordinate trip execution, resolve issues, and maintain service standards
- Balance efficiency with service quality, ensuring members receive timely, reliable transportation while optimizing operational performance
- Leverage on-the-job learning and territory familiarity to improve scheduling decisions over time
Qualifications
- Associates Degree or equivelent work experience preffered in Transportation or NEMT
- Strong operational mindset with the ability to think critically about efficiency and resource allocation
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Ability to quickly learn and retain geographic, driver, and operational knowledge
- Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate across teams and with drivers in real time
- Comfortable making quick decisions and adjusting plans as conditions change
What Success Looks Like
- All trips are assigned accurately with no missed or uncovered rides
- Drivers are consistently operating at or near full capacity
- Efficient use of multi-loading and routing reduces downtime and increases trip volume per driver
- TCS-required trips are always prioritized and properly covered
- Schedules are proactively adjusted with minimal disruption to service
