Lawton Area Transit System is now hiring dependable, safety-focused, and customer-service-driven Paratransit Drivers to join our public transportation team in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Position Overview
The Paratransit Driver / Para Transit Operator is responsible for safely operating a paratransit vehicle to transport passengers throughout the Lawton service area. Drivers assist passengers with boarding and exiting, safely secure mobility devices when needed, follow assigned schedules, communicate with dispatch, and provide respectful service to riders of all backgrounds and abilities.
This role requires patience, strong communication skills, attention to detail, safe driving habits, and a genuine desire to serve the community.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate paratransit vehicles throughout the Lawton service area.
Transport passengers to and from scheduled destinations in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, seatbelts, mobility devices, wheelchairs, walkers, and securement when needed.
Follow assigned schedules, routes, passenger pick-up times, drop-off times, and operating procedures.
Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Report vehicle maintenance concerns, safety issues, route concerns, or passenger incidents.
Provide professional, respectful, and helpful customer service to all passengers.
Communicate clearly with dispatch, supervisors, passengers, and team members.
Follow all traffic laws, company policies, safety procedures, and public transportation guidelines.
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional vehicle environment.
Represent Lawton Area Transit System with reliability, patience, professionalism, and pride.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license required.
Must have a safe driving record.
Previous driving experience is preferred.
Previous paratransit, shuttle, transportation, delivery, medical transport, school bus, public transit, or professional driving experience is a plus.
Must be dependable, punctual, patient, and professional.
Must be comfortable working with the public and assisting passengers with different needs.
Must be able to follow schedules, written instructions, safety procedures, and dispatch communication.
Must be able to pass required background screening, drug testing, and employment requirements.
Strong customer service and communication skills are required.
Must be able to safely assist passengers when needed.
