Lawton Area Transit System (LATS) is seeking a dependable, experienced, and safety-focused Transit Supervisor / Bus Operations Supervisor to help lead daily public transportation operations serving the Lawton and Fort Sill community.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for bus operator supervision, dispatch coordination, route coverage, daily transit operations, employee coaching, schedule adherence, service reliability, safety compliance, incident response, and customer service support.

- Starting Salary: $40,000 per year
- After successful completion of the 120-day probationary period: $43,000 per year
- After completion of the first year of service: $45,000 per year
- Future salary increases continue based on the established Years of Service pay scale

CLASS B CDL PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT REQUIRED
Applicants for this supervisory position must possess a:
Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement.
Because Transit Supervisors may be required to operate a transit bus, assist with service coverage, evaluate drivers, respond to field operations, and support bus operators, this CDL requirement is essential to the position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Transit Supervisor, you will help oversee the people, vehicles, routes, and daily decisions required to keep public transportation operating safely and reliably.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Supervise, coach, support, and evaluate bus operators and dispatch personnel
- Oversee daily fixed-route and passenger transportation operations
- Coordinate driver assignments, vehicle assignments, route coverage, and daily schedules
- Monitor route performance, schedule adherence, on-time performance, passenger service, delays, and service disruptions
- Work closely with dispatch to resolve driver call-ins, route coverage issues, staffing shortages, and operational challenges
- Provide visible field supervision and support to bus operators
- Conduct driver ride-alongs, performance observations, safety checks, and operational evaluations
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, professionalism, customer service, and compliance with operating procedures
- Respond to accidents, incidents, passenger complaints, safety concerns, service disruptions, and emergency situations
- Investigate and accurately document accidents, incidents, complaints, and operational issues
- Assist with employee coaching, retraining, corrective action, and performance improvement
- Maintain accurate attendance records, route documentation, incident reports, accident reports, operational logs, and required paperwork
- Communicate effectively between operations leadership, dispatch, maintenance, drivers, and frontline employees
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel when vehicle or fleet issues affect service
- Assist with driver training and continued employee development
- Promote defensive driving, passenger safety, workplace safety, and professional customer service
- Make timely operational decisions during service disruptions or high-pressure situations
- Operate a transit bus or serve as a backup CDL driver when necessary to maintain service coverage
- Help maintain a professional, accountable, safety-first, and team-oriented workplace
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Valid Class B CDL
- Passenger Endorsement required
- Current DOT medical card/certification as required
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Acceptable driving record
- No DUI/DWI or major moving violations within the past 3 years
- Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving practices
- Knowledge of passenger transportation and vehicle safety
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to supervise, coach, and hold employees accountable
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies, complaints, staffing shortages, and service disruptions
- Basic to intermediate computer skills
- Ability to accurately complete reports, schedules, accident documentation, and operational records

SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY

- Additional coverage during service disruptions or staffing needs
Supervisors must be prepared to support operations when leadership presence is needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is a hands-on transportation operations position and is not strictly an office-based supervisory role.
