GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Student Success Specialist assists in planning and providing appropriate services for students and creating an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of all students. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community members. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Provides guidance and support to students facing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional challenges.
- Develops comprehensive plans that include goal-setting, progress monitoring, and data analysis.
- Counsels students individually and in small groups.
- Assists students in conflict resolution.
- Supports the implementation of Virginia Tiered System of Supports (VTSS), with a focus on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs; participates on the school’s VTSS team.
- Refers students to intervention/remediation programs, as well as academic and alternative programs, to ensure academic success and personal well-being.
- Refers students to appropriate school personnel and community agencies.
- Collaborates with building administrators, school counselors, and other school staff to create a master class schedule that best serves the educational needs of all students.
- Prepares reports, records, lists and all other required information and data.
- Encourages teacher/parent communication and community involvement.
- Serves as a resource for school personnel and parents.
- Participates in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in student support.
- Promotes a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture that supports equity and student voice.
- Implements initiatives that support attendance, student engagement, and school connectedness.
- Serves as a resource for staff professional development related to trauma-informed practices, de-escalation techniques, and culturally responsive interventions.
- Assists with crisis intervention and safety protocols, including threat assessments and re-entry meetings.
- Coordinates or contributes to mentoring programs, advisory periods, or peer support initiatives.
- Supports transitions for students returning from alternative placements, extended absences, or disciplinary consequences.
- Refers students to appropriate internal supports (e.g., school counselors, interventionists) and external agencies (e.g., mental health services, youth and family support programs).
- Maintains accurate records, data logs, intervention documentation, and other reporting materials to support student tracking and school compliance efforts.
- Assists in managing 504 Plans and coordinating student support meetings (e.g., SST, MTSS, and behavior planning).
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to identify and address student challenges in a proactive and effective manner.
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and keep accurate records.
- Understanding of student development theories and best practices in supporting student success.
- Proficiency in using technology for communication, data management, and reporting.
- A commitment to supporting the success of all students, regardless of background or learning needs.

Salary : $50,513 - $70,199
