DESCRIPTION

Position Summary: The Creative Media & Production Intern participates in a three-phase learning experience covering arts operations, curriculum development, and film editing. This internship provides hands-on experience in the creative sector, ideal for students interested in filmmaking, editing, design,, teaching/education, or production work.

Key Responsibilities:

Project 1: Arts Operations & Production Support. 1) organize and catalog props, wardrobe, and production design materials; 2) support the prop house and film program operations; and 3) learn equipment management, procurement, and inventory systems.

Project 2: Curriculum & Media Design. 1) update and organize curriculum slide decks for clarity and usability; and 2) add visuals, terminology, and design enhancements to support learning.

Project 3: Editing & Creative Project. 1) edit a short-form video (BTS or educational content); and 2) present a final reflection demonstrating skill development and learning outcomes.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Interns will fully integrate into our daily programs team operations, participating in weekly staff meetings, cross-departmental meetings, 1:1 check-ins, and professional development sessions. In addition, interns will take part in structured career exploration sessions. These include informational interviews with organizational leaders such as the Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Communications, Program Directors, and a YCP Filmmaking Mentor. Through these conversations, interns gain exposure to a range of creative-sector career paths—from production and arts education to nonprofit management, communications, and storytelling—helping them understand the breadth of opportunities within the arts and cultural sector.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in film, arts education, or design
  • Willingness to learn both technical and creative skills
  • Reliability, curiosity, and strong communication abilities
  • No prior technical experience required—training will be provided
  • Some experience or knowledge in filmmaking preferred, but not required
BACKGROUND

The Latino Film Institute (LFI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for emerging storytellers through film education, workforce pathways, and public programming. Its Youth Cinema Project (YCP) operates in over 50 classrooms across California, providing public school students in 5-12 grades with professional filmmaking mentors to guide them through the creation of their own films.

Students may apply by submitting a resume and a brief statement of interest through LFI’s online application portal through ADP Workforce. Applicants will be asked to describe their interest in filmmaking, creative media, or learning new skills. After submitting their materials, selected students will be invited to participate in a short interview with the Education Programs team.
