Overview
This role supports all aspects of the company's litigation portfolio, including auto liability, general liability, commercial disputes, and employment-related matters while driving initiatives that reduce legal exposure through training, safety programs, and operational alignment. The position reports primarily to the General Counsel and also manages special projects involving claims management, risk advisories, insurance/finance initiatives, and executive-level presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Safety and Operations teams to maintain industry‑leading safety, compliance, and risk‑mitigation practices.
- Lead internal reporting and response coordination for major safety incidents, working closely with outside counsel.
- Under the AGC-Litigation, manage the company's auto and general liability litigation portfolio, including outside counsel oversight, post‑incident actions, reporting on high‑exposure matters, and strategies to reduce claims.
- Provide hands‑on support for litigation activities such as depositions, mediations, settlement negotiations, trials, and appeals.
- Direct outside counsel in accordance with company strategy and assist in all phases of litigation from rapid response through resolution.
- Collaborate with the Third‑Party Administrator (TPA) on claim reviews, approvals, and defense of significant or catastrophic claims.
- Manage client‑related litigation obligations, including tenders of defense, records requests, and limited claim investigations.
- Support Risk Management by evaluating TPA performance, reviewing reports, and participating in claim review roundtables.
- Assist with claim assessment, reserve evaluation, data reporting, and presentations.
- Work closely with Finance and Insurance teams on coverage issues, reserve adequacy, and actuarial considerations.
- Develop strategies to reduce legal spend and overall cost of resolving auto, general liability, and workers' compensation matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor from accredited institutions.
- Admission to at least one state bar.
- 5 years of legal experience, including significant general liability, personal injury, or tort litigation.
- Law firm experience preferred; in‑house experience with national liability programs is a plus.
- Ability to independently manage a significant litigation portfolio and direct outside counsel.
- Experience with national commercial liability programs preferred.
- Background in transportation, safety, or regulatory compliance is preferred.
- Must be able to work onsite 3 days a week.
Salary : $160,000 - $190,000
