Duffy Kruspodin is seeking a Senior Accountant for one of their most loyal clients, Lantern Crest Senior Living. Lantern Crest Senior Living is a privately held real estate development, construction, and property management group based in San Diego County. Their portfolio includes ground-up development projects, stabilized commercial assets, and operating businesses. They manage multiple affiliated entities and are actively expanding our platform. This position is 100% on-site in Santee, CA.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is a senior‑level finance professional responsible for overseeing accounting operations while providing financial insight, forecasting, and advisory support across a growing real estate development, construction, and property management platform. This role blends hands‑on accounting execution with higher‑level financial analysis and advisory work. The position will adapt over time based on business needs, shifting between strategic financial support during periods of acquisition, development, or financing activity, and detailed accounting execution during construction close‑out, reconciliations, and routine financial reporting cycles. The role will initially place greater emphasis on advisory and optimization work, including assessing existing accounting structures, improving processes, and supporting leadership decision‑making, before evolving into a more balanced ongoing operational rhythm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes across multiple legal entities
- Prepare and review accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow tracking
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across entities and systems
Construction, Development & Property Accounting
- Track project costs, budgets, and development expenditures
- Perform job costing and margin analysis for construction and development projects
- Prepare construction draws and support lender reporting requirements
- Perform CAM reconciliations and lease‑related accounting
- Monitor property‑level operating performance and key financial metrics
Financial Analysis, Forecasting & Advisory
- Develop cash flow forecasts, budgets, and financial models across entities and projects
- Track budget‑to‑actual performance and analyze variances
- Support leadership with financial insights related to acquisitions, development, and growth planning
- Prepare financial packages and respond to lender, investor, and underwriting requests
- Evaluate financial performance to inform short‑ and long‑term strategic planning
Tax, Compliance & External Coordination
- Support tax planning initiatives in coordination with external CPA firms
- Prepare and maintain supporting schedules and documentation for tax filings
- Assist with 1031 exchange planning and execution
- Partner with third‑party advisors on cost segregation studies and other tax optimization strategies
Systems, Process Improvement & Optimization
- Support the transition and standardization of accounting systems, including the migration to QuickBooks
- Evaluate existing accounting and financial structures and recommend process improvements
- Strengthen internal controls, documentation practices, and reporting consistency
- Assist with ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as business needs evolve
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Approximately 5-10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, aligned to a Senior (Level III) professional role
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, and multi‑entity structures
- Experience with construction, development, real estate, or property management accounting
- Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
- Ability to balance detailed transactional work with higher‑level analysis and advisory responsibilities
Preferred
- Experience with project‑based or development accounting
- Exposure to financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic planning
- Experience supporting financing, lender reporting, or real estate transactions
- CPA or CPA‑eligible status is a plus, but not required
- Experience working in a privately held, growth‑oriented business environment
- Experience in QuickBooks and Sage 50
