Position: Cashier/Student Accounts Clerk

Reports to: Director of Student Accounts
Classification: Salary Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Director of Student Accounts, the Student Account Clerk is responsible for the collection activity for the college not limited to: contacting students to collect outstanding balances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive payments and issue receipts for student accounts and submit reports.
- Receive payments and issue receipts for all non-student related payments.
- Send monthly billing statements to student.
- Maintaining payment plans.
- Preparing collection correspondence.
- Maintain accurate records of all students accounts receivables.
- Protects Lane College values by keeping information confidential.
- Work with Controller to ensure a clean and timely yearend audit.
- Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits and active participation in the organizations mission and values.
- Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting or related field of equivalent combination of education and experience in student financial services, collections or accounts receivables.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos and prepare correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to perform basic mathematic functions using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Good communication skills written or oral.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and the job related software, a keyboard, calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, shredder, etc.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and use foot/feet to operate machinery.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
