Preventative Maintenance Technician

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Minimum Experience:

• Five years of experience in building trades, maintenance planning, construction/facility planning and scheduling, or construction estimating

Minimum Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Eligible for coverage under the District’s vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of computer use as it relates to the management of maintenance schedules, time estimates and reports
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents including blueprints, drawings, schematics and schedules
• A good working knowledge of building codes and both state and local ordinances
• Knowledge of building construction and materials
• Knowledge of types of asbestos use and locations of asbestos containing materials in buildings
• Knowledge of a variety of building trades
• Ability to meet predetermined deadlines
• Ability to read and interpret written and/or oral instructions
• Ability to concentrate on accuracy of details
• Ability to exercise judgment as to when to act independently
• Ability to work cooperatively with employees and the public
• Ability to work flexible hours or shifts
• Ability to work in confined areas

Equipment Used: Hand tools, power tools, electrical meters and test equipment, motor vehicle, paint brush, paint rollers, dollies and carts, computer. Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over); standing, walking, kneeling, and repeated bending; climbing, operation of motor vehicle. Outside/inside work, excessive hot and cold temperature, excessive humidity and dampness, exposure to excessive noise; exposures to dust, fumes, smoke, or gas; exposures to solvents, grease, and oil; works around machinery with moving parts, works around moving objects and vehicles, works on ladders and/or scaffolding.
