Title: HR Generalist
Compensation: $27 - $32 an hour (non-exempt)
Location: Blaine, MN (hybrid)
About the Job:
Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit for an HR Generalist to join their team. Our client is a well-established, mission-driven organization operating in a fast-paced, regulated environment with a strong focus on operational excellence and employee experience.
This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of key HR functions including payroll, benefits administration, onboarding, compliance, and employee relations. The HR Generalist plays a hands-on role in supporting employees, ensuring HR processes operate smoothly, and continuously improving systems and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll
- Manage bi-weekly payroll processing with accuracy and timeliness
- Distribute payroll documents (pay stubs, W-2s, 1095-Cs, etc.)
- Support quarter-end and year-end payroll activities
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Own the full onboarding experience from pre-hire through orientation
- Coordinate background checks, E-Verify, drug screens, DOT physicals, and related requirements
- Conduct new hire orientations and ensure completion of onboarding paperwork
- Coordinate offboarding activities in accordance with established procedures
Benefits Administration
- Serve as the primary contact for employee benefits questions and vendor coordination
- Process new hire benefit enrollments and support open enrollment
- Perform monthly benefits billing reconciliation
- Assist employees with HRIS navigation related to benefits
Employee Relations
- Respond to day-to-day HR inquiries related to payroll, benefits, HRIS, and timekeeping
- Support investigations, disciplinary actions, and employee relations matters
- Build strong relationships and trust with employees at all levels
- Facilitate employee engagement initiatives and stay interviews
- Administer leaves of absence and coordinate with payroll and benefits
Administrative & Compliance
- Respond to unemployment claims
- Assist with 401(k) compliance, audits, and reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
- Complete EEOC and ACA reporting
- Assist with handbook updates and policy drafting
- Monitor labor law compliance and required postings
- Generate HR reports and conduct internal audits
Technology & Training
- Assist with HRIS optimization and end-user training
- Support training initiatives as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred
- 2–4 years of progressive HR experience across multiple functional areas
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO)
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (UKG Ready preferred)
- Strong communication, organization, and confidentiality skills
- Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR) strongly preferred
