Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our team. The role of the Receptionist includes answering phones, greeting and checking in patients, scheduling appointments, running insurance eligibility, discussing copays and deductibles, collect copays and patient payments, and processing exam paperwork. This individual will help keep work areas organized, as well as ensure our office provides a welcoming environment for our patients. This role requires strong communication skills, proficiency in medical terminology, and familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Responsibilities
- To receive and welcome patients and guests and deal with any enquiries in a kind and courteous manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- To answer incoming telephone calls and deal with queries including scheduling imaging appointments and all other clerical duties.
- Calling patients and providers to schedule patient imaging examinations.
- To issue and assist patients with the completion of all relevant paperwork prior to their imaging examination and accurately and efficiently input into EMR.
- To accurately update patient’s demographics and insurance information into EMR.
- Perform patient insurance eligibility checks, determine and collect any copayments/deductibles due at the time of check in.
- To open/distribute and monitor faxes/emails identifying urgent referrals.
- Have a clear understanding of appointment procedures with knowledge of each individual technologist specialty.
- Inform patient with accurate instructions regarding examination prep (to attend with a full bladder / fasting) answering and seeking answers to any concerns.
- Multitask daily, maintaining the ability to complete each task correctly and efficiently.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar role within a medical or radiology office is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems, and health information management practices.
- Familiarity with EMR systems is advantageous.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of customer service.
