The Laconia Daily Sun is looking for a skilled, careful local designer to join our newsroom team. This is a chance to do meaningful work close to home for a newspaper that still matters to its community.
We are not necessarily looking for a newspaper veteran. We are looking for a local creative who takes pride in clean layout, values the role of a community paper, and wants a steady role with real purpose. We are happy to train the right person in newspaper production.
The job centers on helping produce our daily newspaper and related digital products. That includes building pages in Adobe InDesign using established templates, placing stories and photos, adjusting layout elements, and helping prepare pages for publication. Other duties may include e-editions, digital newsletters, website content, social media graphics, and other production work.
Must-have skills
• Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
• Good eye for layout, typography, spacing, and clean visual presentation
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to follow templates, style rules, and direction
• Ability to work accurately on deadline
• Clear written communication
• Reliability, patience, and willingness to learn
Helpful but not required
• Photoshop or other Adobe Creative Suite experience
• Experience with multi-page documents, publication design, or print production
• Interest in local journalism
• Local ties to the Lakes Region or a clear desire to build a career here
