What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Safety Monitor - 4 Day Instructional Week position at La Vernia ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, the School Safety Monitor protects the rights and property of the school, District personnel, and students and enforces District policies and school regulations as they relate to safety and security of people and property.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Military, Law Enforcement or Security, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate a mature, responsible attitude necessary for the position
Ability to perform duties with minimum supervision
Ability to work in a positive manner with children
Ability to communicate effectively with student’s and peers
Ability to defuse confrontational situations
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Direct students to the correct classrooms and keeps hallways cleared
- Escort students as necessary to their classrooms or the administration office when students arrive late, or are wandering in the halls after the late bell has run. Checks to ensure all students have a hall pass
- Assist administration in removing students that are disrupting the class and escorts such students to the administration office for corrective action.
- Inspect restrooms to ensure students are not loitering or damaging facilities. (Teacher assistance will be requested of person of the opposite sex restroom inspections).
- Assist in the monitoring and departure of school buses to ensure that students arrive and depart safely.
- Monitor the hallways.
- Take appropriate action to defuse any actions taken by students to initiate a confrontation.
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance.
- Ensure compliance with Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics.
- Monitor school grounds and property for any destruction or vandalism
- Lock and unlock doors and gates throughout the day as needed.
- Patrol parking lot and enforce on-campus parking policies.
- Maintain highly visible profile in and around campus throughout day as needed.
- Assist School Resource Officer when needed.
- Maintain close working relationship with campus administrators.
- Enforce Student Code of Ethics.
- Any other duties as assigned by Director of Safety and Security.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; operation of a motor vehicle; specific physical and visual requirements; control of sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
