What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Technician I - 4 Day Instructional Week position at La Vernia ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Perform initial troubleshooting to support technology hardware, network, and software applications throughout the district. Provide training and support to staff on hardware and software used district-wide. Support students, faculty, and staff by completing work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Clear and valid driver’s license
Technology certifications
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting
Knowledge of desktop/laptop workstation setup
Knowledge of hardware and software applications
Ability to install, maintain, and repair devices (desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads) and peripherals
Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs
Ability to walk people through troubleshooting steps on the phone
Good phone rapport
Strong organizational skills
Ability to prioritize task completion
Experience:
3 years of work experience troubleshooting and working with technology
Experience in a K-12 environment preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Technical Support
- Provide technical assistance to users of desktops/laptops, mobile devices, instructional equipment, and software both in-person and remotely via phone.
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade software and peripherals, throughout the district. Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed.
- Assist with the organization and distribution of technology-based material for classroom use.
- Provision accounts for new users and provides basic training for employees on accessing district systems.
Equipment Repair and Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair network connectivity and hardware issues.
- Remove old equipment and perform data migration to new machines.
- Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
Inventory
- Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware, software, and other equipment and material district-wide.
- Identify, request, and control the inventory of repair parts.
Other
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Educator Certification rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over)
Environment: Exposure to electrical hazards; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel; May be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.
