What are the responsibilities and job description for the Curriculum Specialist (Math/Science) Preferred position at La Vernia ISD?
Primary Purpose:
To plan, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive instructional program that facilitates the use of best practices, effective learning strategies, and enhancement of students’ critical thinking skills. Identify staff development needs of the school and provide staff development related to curriculum.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification Appropriate Teacher Certification Master’s Degree preferred Leadership, or other relevant experience Special Knowledge/Skills

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years successful K-12 classroom teaching experience in the specified content area Instructional leadership experience with data tools and analysis.
Math & Science preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Program:
1. Support a learning environment conducive to effective instruction.
2. Demonstrate effective learning strategies in classrooms.
3. Evaluate curriculum and instructional effectiveness and collaborate with teachers and administrators to interpret and use assessment data to make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
4. Create assessments and analyze data to assist administrators with the placement of students in appropriate instructional or intervention programs.
5. Lead faculty in the selection and use of a range of assessment tools as a means to make sound decisions about student needs as related to the curriculum and to instruction. Adapted from TASB HR Services
6. Conduct regular planning meetings with classroom teachers to examine student work and monitor progress in order to support teacher reflection and action.
7. Create assessments and facilitate discussions with classroom teachers regarding the analysis of formal and informal assessment data on their students to determine student response to instruction.
8. Assist the school’s campus administrators in planning for and implementing the accountability goals associated with the Campus Improvement Plan.
9. Work cooperatively with district and campus leadership in developing and facilitating the campus instructional program in order to determine the school’s strengths and needs for improvement to improve students’ achievement.
10. Assist and guide teachers with planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction.
11. Participate in team reviews concerning the academic progress of at-risk students who are not responding to interventions.
12. Ensure instructional vertical alignment across contents on all campuses.
13. Attend scheduled meetings and parent conferences pertaining to curriculum, assessment, and/or instruction. 14. Coordinate the review, development, and revision of all curriculum documents and materials.
15. Assist with evaluation of literacy testing programs and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
16. Provide guidance in the ordering and use of instructional materials.
Professional Development:
17. Plan and provide in-service training and follow-up coaching to assist classroom teachers in the use of instructional strategies in their classrooms.
18. Work with teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and/or with departments, providing practical support on a full range of instructional strategies.
19. Provide feedback to teachers on instruction as needed.
20. Participate in district-level professional development meetings and assist in the coordination of district-level professional development offerings.
21. Continue professional growth and strengthen professional knowledge and skills
