Position Summary:
Under the minimal direction of the Chief Probation Officer, the Pre Trial Officer performs work to complete state approved public safety assessments on daily jail bookings, and provide required information to the Courts in a timely manner; performs and is responsible for juvenile transportation to and from County detention and detention facilities located outside of the County, as well as any necessary transportation needs for the department; assists probation officers by monitoring and providing surveillance of juvenile and adult probationers, including adult pretrial clients to ensure individuals adhere to the conditions of probation and/or pretrial release.
This is an Entry/Trainee position that performs professional work of moderate difficulty under close supervision. Positions at this level are assigned routine/standardized or recurring duties. As experience is gained, incumbents work more independently on an expanded variety of assigned duties. Specific instructions and guidelines are given with work assignments. Work performed and decisions made affect routine operations of the department.
Essential Job Functions & Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes a public safety assessment for each defendant and submits a report with release recommendations to appropriate Court for the Judge's consideration at the defendant's initial appearance, occurring both weekday and weekend mornings
- Transports juveniles to and from detention for Court and other appointments as needed
- Administers urinalysis and breath alcohol tests as needed
- Enforces mandated curfews and house arrests through telephone contacts, work site visits, home visits which may occur at any time of the day or evening
- Participates in conferences to evaluate probationers’ progress to determine possible and/or appropriate changes in level of supervision warranted
- Supervises and documents community work service placements
- Conducts required face to face contact with individuals (to also include collateral or associated contacts) at their place of residence, employment, school, counseling, and community restitution service, at varying hours of the day to include nights and weekends
- Documents and maintains verifiable case records of all contacts with individuals and collaterals including activities, behavior, movement, phone calls, and visitors
- May be required to report any violations of conditions of probation and/or pretrial release to the Court
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- U.S. citizen or have legal resident status
- Arizona Driver License
- High School Diploma or GED
