JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
Under administrative direction of Chief Probation Officer and Presiding Judge of the Superior Court; performs professional and administrative work in assisting the Chief Probation Officer in planning, developing, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the probation department as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs and monitors same according to departmental and State requirements
- Ensures standardized implementation of probation activities Countywide
- Performs a variety of high level administrative, managerial, supervisory duties, tasks and functions in support of the day-to-day operation and organization of the department
- Participates in the implementation and evaluation of departmental automation projects
- Coordinates various aspects of personnel operations including hiring, transfers, promotions and reassignment of staff; staff development, counseling and disciplining of staff; identifies and recommends personnel system changes for the department.
- Resolves internal and external conflicts/issues in the management and administration of the department
- Participates in staff development programs
- Selects, plans, assigns, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of subordinates
- Conducts employee performance appraisals, assists in monitoring job development, staffing, and interviewing
- Oversees applicant background investigations, psychological and polygraph testing (as necessary), urinalysis, and hiring processes
- Develops, directs or coordinates in-service training programs
- Coordinates activities and programs with service-providers and related agencies; including law enforcement agencies, schools, State agencies/government, treatment programs, community organizations, and service groups
- May perform pre-sentencing investigations, monitors adult and juvenile probationers’ activities or have case management duties
- Performs other job-related functions or duties as assigned

· Perform pre-sentence investigations, monitors probationers’ activities or have case management duties as needed

- Functions as the Chief Probation Officer as required
Minimum Job Requirements:
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory, administrative or management work involving personnel management or probation supervision caseload management
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Judicial Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Science or related field involving judicial organization management, education and training
Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability:
- Ability to perform job functions with a significant level of trust and diplomacy in addition to normal courtesy and tact
- Ability to work in an environment with extensive personal contact with others in a personal or sensitive nature
- Ability and Skill to motivate or influence others
- Ability to foster sound relationships with other entities, organizations and individuals
- Knowledge of principles and practices of social and correctional case management, counseling, and interviewing and investigation techniques
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in community corrections
- Knowledge of Federal, and State laws, regulations, and rules pertaining to the provision of probation and pretrial services
- Knowledge of psychological, sociological and cultural influences on interpersonal relationships and human behavior
- Knowledge of Criminal Justice systems
- Knowledge of interrelationships of probation, parole, law enforcement, social welfare, and societal influences legal terminology and court processes and procedures
- Knowledge of organization development and operations
- Knowledge of principles and practices of management, supervision, records management, case and case flow management, bookkeeping, record keeping
- Knowledge of the principles of administration, personnel, budgeting, supervision and staff development and evaluation
Preferred Knowledge, Skill & Ability: As a combined Adult and Juvenile department, preference may be given to an applicant with experience in both programs.
