We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Federal Tax Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate has 5 years or more of experience preparing individual, business and fiduciary income tax returns and federal estate tax returns. The candidate should also have at least one year of experience in reviewing tax returns prepared by staff members and responding to IRS correspondence. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to client service. You will work closely with clients and staff members and report directly to the firm principals. The position offers a clear path to achieving shareholder status in our firm.
Key Responsibilities
• Team leadership and development: Manage workflow and scheduling for tax preparers, train
and mentor staff and work with principals to set staff performance expectations.
• Tax return preparation and review: Oversee and review preparation of tax returns by staff,
provide feedback to improve staff performance, prepare complicated tax returns, ensure
returns are accurate and timely filed, track projects and monitor deadlines using practice
management software.
• Client Relationships and Project Management: Communicate directly with clients to gather
required information, address questions and resolve discrepancies; build and maintain
strong client relationships and look for opportunities for tax savings and planning
• Tax Compliance and Research: Demonstrate strong knowledge of current tax codes,
continually monitor changes and updates in tax laws and regulations, participate in
continuing education programs and research best practices; provide support and guidance
to clients regarding IRS notices and other government inquiries,
• Perform additional duties as necessary to ensure quality service to clients and development
of strong tax team.
Qualifications
• CPA or Enrolled Agent.
• Proficiency in federal tax regulations.
• Eligible to hold a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).
• Experience with CCH ProSystem fx Tax and Engagement software (preferred).
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks and other small business accounting software.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bilingual communication skills (English and Spanish) are a plus.
