The Maintenance and Utilities Manager oversees and manages the maintenance and utilities operations within Kymera International - RTP. The Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and efficiency of equipment and facilities. Leads a team of technicians and external contractors, as required, manages budgets, implements safety protocols, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. Works to optimize operational performance and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintenance Management
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee operates primarily in a plant environment with regular exposure to production equipment, noise, and temperature variations. Appropriate PPE is required. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all plant equipment and facilities.
- Lead and manage the maintenance team, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating all maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, provide technical support, and ensure timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Ensure critical spares are set up in the ERP system to help minimize downtime.
- Lead implementation of engineering projects related to equipment upgrades, and facility expansions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams implement process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of plant utilities (e.g., HVAC, water systems, compressed air, power distribution).
- Monitor and manage utility consumption, costs, and environmental impact; implement energy-saving initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to utilities and plant operations.
- This role is accountable for achieving reliability, safety, cost, and sustainability targets aligned with site KPIs.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of maintenance professionals to achieve department and organizational goals.
- Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the team.
- Provide performance feedback, training, and development opportunities to team members.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, EPA, Local/State Environmental Permits, ISO Standards).
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Promote a safety-first culture and enforce adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, or utilities management in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience leading and managing cross-functional teams.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems, engineering principles, and utilities management
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and other maintenance software.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance in a manufacturing setting.
- Role requires flexibility to support off-shift maintenance, emergencies, or planned shutdowns.
- Certification in maintenance management (e.g., CMRP, PMP) or a related discipline.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with energy management and sustainability practices.

- Comfort working in noisy, hot, or cold environments typical of manufacturing facilities
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving materials, samples, or documents)
- Visual acuity to read schematics, charts, and production data on screens or paper
- Manual dexterity for handling tools, writing, or using a computer while on the floor
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection when required
- Ability to spend significant amount of time on the shop floor as required.
