Accountabilities
Facilities, Buildings & Grounds
- Manage maintenance, renovation, and inspection of all site buildings, including offices, roofs, windows, doors, flooring, and structural elements.
- Oversee site grounds and infrastructure, including landscaping, roads and parking lots, fencing and gates, rail lines, storm and sanitary sewers, and waste/recycling services.
- Administer building access, locks, and key systems.
- Manage winter weather preparedness and ice control.
- Oversee pest control programs and site sanitation standards.
- Serve as primary point of contact with utility providers for gas, water, fire water, and sewer services.
- Ensure adequate supplies and contractor support to meet facility needs.
- Provide leadership and oversight of plant utilities systems, including boilers, compressors, air dryers, and water treatment systems.
- Ensure continuous and reliable utility supply to manufacturing operations.
- Monitor system performance to ensure quality, safety, environmental, and cost targets are met.
- Partner with maintenance to plan and execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
- Drive improvements in utility efficiency, reliability, and operating costs.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee fire protection, alarm, and emergency lighting systems, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
- Maintain emergency preparedness, loss prevention practices, and training programs.
- Ensure environmental controls and procedures are followed and incidents are reported and addressed.
- Lead facilities, buildings & grounds, and utilities personnel, including supervisory staff and boiler operators.
- Manage performance, staffing, training, and skill development.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in hiring, coaching, and employee development activities.
- Manage facilities and utilities operating budgets and special maintenance expenses.
- Support and lead capital projects related to infrastructure, utilities, and site improvements.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term improvement plans for people, processes, and equipment.
- Utilize CMMS, SAP, and standard reporting tools to manage assets and performance.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, Pulp & Paper Science, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of supervisory or management experience in facilities, utilities, or manufacturing operations.
- Experience leading maintenance or operational support teams in an industrial environment preferred.
- Union environment experience a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial utilities, building systems, and infrastructure maintenance.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with CMMS, SAP, Microsoft Office, and related systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
