Job Title: Regulatory Affairs Supervisor

Location: San Fernando, CA | Onsite

Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM

Compensation: $34.00-$38.00 per hour DOE | Candidates must be flexible to work overtime as needed

Job Summary:

The Regulatory Affairs Supervisor leads regulatory compliance programs and policies to help ensure company-wide adherence to applicable regulatory requirements. This role oversees the daily activities of the Regulatory Affairs team, provides guidance and support to department personnel, and helps maintain effective regulatory processes. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, regulatory expertise, and the ability to support cross-functional compliance initiatives while serving as a resource for the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide internal regulatory support and compliance guidance regarding company products and their intended use
  • Evaluate supplier documentation and provide guidance to internal staff when information is incomplete or requires clarification
  • Maintain the integrity of the company's raw material substantiation database by reviewing, interpreting, and validating supplier and material information
  • Review regulatory and technical documentation from suppliers to ensure compliance with company requirements as part of the supplier approval process
  • Review regulations and supplier documentation to determine international compliance requirements for raw materials and maintain accurate records within the company's compliance database
  • Verify international compliance data entered by Regulatory Affairs Specialists to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's compliance database
  • Review product formulations and technical data to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, customer requirements, and industry guidelines
  • Generate draft documentation to support product ingredient registrations for international markets for management review
  • Generate draft documentation and responses to requests for product information from customs authorities or customs agents for management review
  • Communicate approved regulatory and technical information to customers, certification organizations, customs authorities, and regulatory agencies in accordance with company guidelines
  • Collaborate with internal regulatory, environmental health and safety (EHS), and quality teams to exchange information and proactively address product safety and regulatory matters while ensuring clear communication across departments
  • Approve initial product label profiles to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards
  • Manage the process of foreign language label creation and coordinate reviews and approvals with applicable third-party organizations
  • Submit products for applicable third-party certifications, including Kosher, Halal, and Organic, and participate in certification audits as required
  • Review and approve regulatory information documents prepared by department staff and serve as a backup for document generation as needed
  • Prepare and submit product formula filings to the TTB
  • Complete customer documentation and questionnaires related to product certifications for products containing company ingredients
  • Review and approve Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and provide guidance and support to department staff
  • Participate in the transition of research and development (R&D) products into active production by performing regulatory reviews of product formulations and obtaining required certifications as needed
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and research, develop, implement, and review technical data to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Advise internal personnel on new and emerging government regulatory requirements and compliance developments
  • Maintain current knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable and emerging regulations, industry standards, and certification requirements, including TTB, IFRA, Kosher, Halal, and Organic programs
  • Apply regulatory expertise to review and interpret requirements related to product labeling, food allergens, genetically modified foods, bioengineered foods, nutrition, organic and religious certifications, FEMA GRAS, FDA, USDA, Proposition 65, and applicable international regulations affecting food ingredients used in manufacturing
  • Ensure bulk product labeling complies with applicable domestic and international regulatory requirements
  • Prepare formal written responses to customer inquiries regarding regulatory compliance and product certifications
  • Ensure appropriate customs duty classifications are accurately determined and applied in accordance with applicable regulations

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of regulatory affairs experience, including supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience with Halal, Kosher, or Organic certification processes
  • Ability to interpret and apply global regulatory requirements, standards, and guidance
  • Familiarity with TTB regulations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, scientific data, governmental regulations, chemical hazard information, and safety procedures
  • Ability to interpret and prepare reports
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify effective solutions
  • Ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts to achieve desired results
  • Excellent attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including analytical, interpretation, and reasoning abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while effectively prioritizing work to meet competing deadlines
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, internet applications, and ERP systems

Preferred:

  • Experience with international regulations
