Position Title: Purchasing Manager
Location: Richmond, VA
Department: Supply Chain
Reports To: Supply Chain Director
Compensation: $110,000 – $115,000 (Exempt)
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Purchasing Manager to take ownership of procurement operations while building a smarter, more strategic sourcing function. This role sits at the intersection of field execution and supply chain strategy, ensuring materials arrive on time, at the right cost, and without disruption to critical project timelines.
You’ll partner closely with project teams, division leaders, and suppliers to drive consistency, strengthen vendor performance, and elevate procurement tools and processes across the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day procurement operations across New Construction, Special Projects, Industrial, Electrical, and Service divisions
- Review project demand, purchase orders, and supplier performance to ensure material readiness
- Partner with project teams during preconstruction to forecast needs and mitigate procurement risks
- Manage and develop Purchasing Specialists, ensuring consistent execution and removing roadblocks
- Build and execute a Strategic Sourcing Roadmap leveraging total spend to secure pricing advantages and protect lead times
- Resolve supplier escalations to maintain project schedules and quality standards
- Oversee the material takeoff process and support accuracy across estimating and procurement
- Implement and manage supplier scorecards to track performance (quality, delivery, responsiveness)
- Analyze pricing, market trends, and financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities
- Negotiate vendor terms and conditions aligned with project and operational needs
- Drive continuous improvement across procurement systems, tools, and reporting
- Maintain strict adherence to company safety standards and practices
Qualifications
Required:
- 7 years of purchasing/procurement experience
- 3 years of leadership experience managing purchasing teams
- Strong negotiation and supplier management experience
- Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred:
- Construction, contractor, or MEP procurement experience
