The Medical Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures, with primary emphasis on obstetrical and pregnancy-related imaging, to support provider assessment, diagnosis, and patient care. This position is responsible for obtaining high-quality sonographic images, documenting technical findings, maintaining ultrasound equipment, coordinating related patient care activities, and supporting team-based care within the OB/GYN setting. The Medical Sonographer may also perform other ultrasound procedures within the scope of licensure, training, and organizational needs.


 


Qualifications


Education:



  • Diploma or Certificate in Sonography required

  • Associate degree from an accredited sonography program preferred


Certifications & Licenses:



  • CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer


Experience:



  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical ultrasound experience preferred


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:



  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and community partners.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR), preferably NextGen

  • Basic proficiency with internet-based systems and clinical software


 


 Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, with primary emphasis on obstetrical and pregnancy-related imaging, including fetal biometry, fetal anatomy assessment, and related sonographic studies as ordered.

  • Perform other ultrasound procedures within the scope of licensure, training, competency, and organizational needs.

  • Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, positioning patients, and assisting with transfers as needed.

  • Obtain, document, and communicate technical findings to the appropriate provider.

  • Maintain ultrasound equipment, ensure proper functionality, and manage image storage and backup processes.

  • Maintain examination rooms with necessary supplies and equipment to support patient care.

  • Assist nursing staff as needed, including specimen collection, vital signs, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, and other support functions within scope.

  • Schedule and coordinate ultrasound appointments and special procedures as needed.

  • Participate in team-based care initiatives as a member of the OB/GYN team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the nature and scope of the position.


 


Work Environment & Schedule



  • Must be able and comfortable working in a variety of settings including, but not limited to clinical environments and office spaces.

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as departmental needs arise.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently use hands and fingers to operate ultrasound equipment, keyboards, controls, and other clinical tools.

  • Frequently reach, extend, and sustain arm and shoulder positions while performing ultrasound examinations.

  • Frequently perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with scanning procedures.

  • Frequently bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and crouch while assisting patients and positioning equipment.

  • Frequently assist with positioning, turning, lifting, or transferring patients, with or without assistance, using safe patient handling practices and equipment when available.

  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequently push or maneuver portable ultrasound equipment and related supplies.

  • Frequently use visual acuity to review images, monitors, medical records, and documentation.

  • Frequently communicate verbally and hear sufficiently to interact with patients, providers, and staff.

  • Occasionally work in confined or awkward positions while obtaining diagnostic images.

  • Tolerate prolonged periods of repetitive motion and static postures associated with sonographic procedures.

  • May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment and must follow applicable infection control and safety protocols.
