About the Opportunity

Our client is a well-capitalized, entrepreneurial family office based in Houston that manages a multi-billion-dollar investment portfolio across public and private markets. As they continue to expand their public equities platform, they are seeking an ambitious Equity Research Analyst with 2–4 years of experience to join their investment team.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced portfolio managers while gaining exposure across equity research, portfolio management, and volatility trading strategies. The successful candidate will play an integral role in generating investment ideas, conducting deep fundamental research, monitoring portfolio performance, and supporting options-based investment strategies.

The Role

As an Equity Research Analyst, you will work closely with the Portfolio Managers to identify attractive investment opportunities across U.S. public equities while supporting the firm's volatility and options strategies.

You will conduct in-depth company analysis, build financial models, monitor macroeconomic trends, and contribute directly to investment recommendations that impact portfolio performance.

This role offers exceptional exposure to institutional-level investing within a highly collaborative, long-term investment environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fundamental research on publicly listed companies across multiple sectors.
  • Build and maintain detailed three-statement financial models and valuation analyses.
  • Analyze earnings releases, SEC filings, industry trends, and competitive landscapes.
  • Generate high-conviction long and short investment ideas.
  • Support portfolio managers with investment recommendations and trade execution.
  • Monitor portfolio exposures, performance attribution, and risk metrics.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of volatility and options-based trading strategies, including covered calls, protective puts, and other derivatives.
  • Research macroeconomic events and assess their impact on portfolio positioning.
  • Prepare investment memorandums and present findings to senior investment professionals.
  • Track company news flow, earnings expectations, and market catalysts.
  • Develop screening tools to identify new investment opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in:
  • Equity Research
  • Investment Banking
  • Asset Management
  • Hedge Fund
  • Family Office
  • Long/Short Equity Investing
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
  • Experience analyzing publicly traded companies.
  • Understanding of options, derivatives, and volatility strategies is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ, or similar research platforms.
  • Programming experience in Python, VBA, or SQL is advantageous.
  • Progress toward the CFA designation is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Passion for investing and financial markets.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Curiosity with a desire to develop differentiated investment ideas.
  • High attention to detail and intellectual rigor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial investment environment.
  • A long-term interest in portfolio management and public market investing.
