This position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply

Salary: Range 38 - $29.25 (step one) - $37.08 (step ten) *

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Work Location: In-person/telecommute (hybrid); Three days in-office required; initial training period will be at the King County Courthouse in Seattle. Regular worksite will be 724 West Smith Street, Suite 101, Kent WA 98032 upon office consolidation; date TBD. An alternative schedule is subject to supervisor approval.

Any change in the position or work group will be determined by the needs of the Family Support Division.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for preparing, serving and filing modification petitions, which includes printing, copying and mailing weekly batches of filing packages
  • Processes various motions, orders and documents, which can involve copying, mailing, scanning and e-filing documents with the court and performing data entry in SEMS(Support Enforcement Management System)
  • Opens new modification referrals from the Division of Child Support which includes setting up a physical file
  • Point person for emails, voice mails, and documents received from people who are involved in private actions involving child support and public assistance. Gathers the information necessary for a deputy to determine if our office should be involved in the case, assigns case to a deputy, and maintains a spreadsheet of appearance cases
  • Assembles and files working papers for trials and hearings, which may include preparing binders for the court
  • Processes and tracks green cards. This involves preparing and copying Certificate of Service by Mail, tracking service, filing with the court, and performing locate work when necessary
  • Associates incoming documents with the files, including updating addresses in SEMS, repackaging and re-mailing documents
  • Provides regular support for the reception functions of the office, including answering phones, handling in person customers, screening reception voice mail messages and faxes, processing incoming and outgoing mail
  • May need to deal with sensitive and/or potentially volatile situations
  • Must be highly motivated, able to work independently, and be able to collaborate as part of a team
  • Perform various other duties as assigned

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Knowledge of general office principles and practices; legal office experience or training helpful
  • Knowledge of legal procedures
  • Knowledge of basic alphabetizing, filing and mathematics
  • Knowledge of proper English grammar, usage and spelling
  • Knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment, such as personal computer, scanner, copier, mail machine, and multi-line telephone
  • E-filing skills handling various forms of electronic data
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Ability to maintain office confidentiality
  • Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide information, based on acquired job knowledge and overview, to the public and employees and agencies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients and others
  • Skill in working independently or as a team member
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing
  • Skill in remaining objective, nonjudgmental, and sensitive with ability to conduct business in a professional manner
  • Skill in interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including clients and other agency personnel

  • Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance

  • This position may occasionally requires moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books or papers that weigh 20-25 pounds

Application Process

PAO employees who are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117 will receive priority consideration. There exists a broken rung in many organizations that can make attaining formal positions challenging to historically excluded groups. We are not requesting a detailed expression of interest, as we prefer to keep barriers for applying low and will look forward to hearing about experience and aspirations for the role during the interview process.

Selection Process

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, qualified bargaining unit members will be invited to participate in a panel interview process.

  • Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.
