Overview: Our client is seeking a mid-career Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of mission-critical radar and defense systems. This role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining embedded real-time software within complex, hardware-centric environments where reliability, performance, and determinism are essential. This role focuses on designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining embedded real-time software within complex, hardware-centric environments where reliability, performance, and determinism are essential. Duties Include:
- Architect, design, implement, test, and debug embedded real-time software
- Develop software on VxWorks, Linux, and other RTOS platforms
- Design and implement interfaces between software, firmware, and real-time hardware controllers
- Support radar and defense systems requiring high availability and deterministic performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, systems, test)
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5-10 years of embedded or real-time software development experience
- Strong proficiency in C (or closely related languages)
- Experience integrating hardware, firmware, and software
- Development experience on VxWorks, Linux, or other RTOS
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
- Experience supporting radar, defense, or aerospace systems
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments
- Exposure to DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD, and automated testing
- Ability to quickly navigate large, complex codebases
