Payroll Specialist

Responsibilities

Kforce has a client in Woodbridge, VA that is seeking a Payroll Specialist. Responsibilities:

• Process biweekly, semi-monthly, or weekly payroll for a multi-state employee population
• Review and audit payroll data to ensure accuracy, including hours worked, pay rates, and deductions
• Manage off-cycle payrolls, adjustments, and corrections as needed
• Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
• Partner with HR to validate payroll-related changes such as benefits, taxes, and deductions
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and assist with month-end close
• Reconcile benefit deductions, garnishments, and payroll-related accounts
• Generate payroll reports and support internal and external audits
• Respond to employee payroll inquiries and provide guidance on timekeeping and pay
  
  

Requirements

• 2 to 5 years of payroll processing experience
• Experience with high-volume payroll and multi-state environments
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, or similar platforms
• Proficient in Excel, including basic formulas and data analysis
• Understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  
  

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
