JOB TITLE: General Sessions Clerk
LOCATION: Clerk of Court Office Kershaw County Courthouse
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 8:30 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.
The position of the General Sessions Clerk, reports directly to the Clerk of Court. The requirements for the position include, but are not limited to:
Processing paperwork, filing, data entry, scanning, assisting the public by phone or in-person, emailing, processing monetary payments, and creating daily and monthly reports. Knowledge of CMS and JMS programs is preferred, but not mandatory. Works with different agencies in the county. Must be able to work in a team environment and take direction from superiors.
Daily in Office Tasks:
o Assist the public with General Sessions inquires.
o Process Public Defenders applications.
o Process over the counter payments.
o Answer telephone calls and check voicemails.
o Check emails and respond within a timely manner.
o Assist with disposition requests.
o Assist attorneys with clocking in motion and LORs.
o Update defendant cases in CMS with updated addresses, attorneys, and motions that are filed.
o Process new warrants from the county and city that are brought in by the Judge.
o Make folders and file folders for new cases.
o Process Daily Deposit and make sure account balances.
o Update Public Defender and Bond spreadsheet.
o Assist probation agents and corrections officers with inquiries.
o Process and Post Payments for Expungements.
o Process dismissals for defendants.
o Process Vacated Bench Warrants when needed.
Monthly in office Tasks:
o Key in Indictments from the Grand Jury.
o Help with motion docket and motion forms when needed.
o Mail out second appearance notices.
o Fill out NCIC reports once a month for the Sheriff’s Department.
o Process second appearance dockets
Bond Tasks:
o Process Off Bond motions and post payments for motions.
o Assist Bondsmen with posting bonds for defendants
o Assist with registering bond license for in county and out of county bondsmen.
o Assist Clerk of Court with Bond Invoices and Payments.
o Assist Defendants with fill out bond paperwork.
o Key in sentencing documents from court.
o During 1 st and 2 nd appearance work with the Solicitor’s and Defense Attorneys to keep track of notices for defendants.
The chosen applicant must be able to pass a credit check, drug test, and criminal background check. Benefits include health care, vision, dental, SC State Retirement, paid vacation, paid sick time, and 13 paid holidays. Position hours are 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
