Part-Time Histology Technician I
Position Summary: Kern Gastroenterology Medical Group is seeking a Part-Time Histology Technician I to assist with the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for microscopic examination. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory quality and patient care.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- 30-minute unpaid lunch break
- 30 hours per week
- No benefits provided
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, accession, and verify patient tissue specimens.
- Process tissue specimens using established laboratory protocols.
- Embed tissue samples in paraffin blocks.
- Perform microtomy and prepare quality tissue sections.
- Stain slides using routine H&E and special stains as directed.
- Label, file, and maintain tissue blocks and slides.
- Perform quality control procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and all laboratory regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Assist the Laboratory Director and Pathologist as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Histology Technician program preferred.
- Previous histology laboratory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity required for specimen preparation and microtomy.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to safely work with laboratory chemicals and biological specimens.
