What are the responsibilities and job description for the PDF Specialist position at Kennedy Services?
DESCRIPTION:
Consultant will be responsible for creating accessible PDFs in the morning and moving them into a designated folder for Quality Assurance. Baltimore County Web Services team members will conduct quality assurance on the documents to ensure compliance and approve the documents. In the afternoons, the consultant will upload the previous day’s approved files to Drupal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Remediation: Fixing accessibility issues in existing PDFs, including tagging, adding alt text, ensuring proper reading order, and making forms accessible.
- Evaluation and Testing: Using tools like screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) and accessibility checkers to identify and document accessibility barriers in PDFs.
- Consultation: Providing guidance to content creators on how to make new documents accessible from the outset.
- Training: Educating teams on accessibility best practices and the use of accessibility tools.
- Staying Current: Keeping up-to-date on evolving accessibility laws, standards (like WCAG, PDF/UA, Section 508), and best practices.
- Documentation: Clearly documenting accessibility issues and remediation steps.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in Accessibility Tools: Expertise in Adobe Acrobat Pro, CommonLook, and other remediation software.
- Familiarity with Assistive Technologies: Experience using screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) and understanding how they interact with PDFs.
- Strong understanding of Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2, PDF/UA, Section 508, and other relevant standards.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve accessibility barriers.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining issues and solutions.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in identifying and correcting accessibility issues.
- Experience with Document Formats: May include experience with Microsoft Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and other relevant formats.

- Estimated time to convert one document: 15 - 20 minutes
- Estimated time to upload 1.5 hours per day
- Estimated output: 18 - 24 case per day
- Estimated timeline to complete 850 documents - 36 - 47 workdays
