Kanzaki Specialty Papers Inc., located in Ware, Massachusetts, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oji Holdings Co., Ltd., the fourth-largest paper company in the world. We manufacture high-quality direct thermal paper for the retail, logistics, medical, gaming, and industrial markets.

We are currently seeking a Slitter Assistant Operator to join our manufacturing team on the straight night shift. This position is part of a three-person crew responsible for operating a paper slitting machine in a fast-paced production environment.

Compensation & Benefits

• Union Position
• Starting Rate: $23.31/hour after successful completion of the introductory period (360 hours worked)
• Shift Differential: $1.30/hour for night shift
• Overtime: 4 hours paid at the overtime rate every shift
• Annual Earnings Potential: $60,000 – $82,000
• Vacation: Accrue 2 weeks of paid vacation after one year

Schedule

Straight Nights: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

• 12-hour shifts
• Employees typically work 36–60 hours per week
• Additional overtime opportunities are frequently available

Position Summary

The Slitter Assistant Operator supports the operation, setup, and maintenance of the slitting machine while ensuring product quality, safety, and production efficiency. This position assists the Slitter Operator with machine setup, quality checks, roll handling, and packaging activities. The Slitter Assistant Operator must be capable of operating the slitter independently in the absence of the Slitter Operator and safely operating all related support equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Transport feed rolls to the slitter using roll handling equipment and overhead cranes.
• Assist the Slitter Operator with machine setup and production changeovers.
• Follow quality control and finished goods documentation to ensure product specifications are met.
• Perform quality inspections, collect samples, and conduct quality checks as required.
• Cut cores and inspect paper throughout the production process.
• Label and mark finished rolls accurately.
• Obtain labels, wrapping materials, tape, and other supplies needed for finished products.
• Assist with wrapping finished rolls and operate roll-wrapping equipment.
• Relocate finished products using approved material handling equipment.
• Complete required production paperwork and computer-based documentation.
• Operate all sections of the slitter in the absence of the Slitter Operator.
• Operate support equipment including hoists, computers, roll handling equipment, and overhead cranes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Experience working 12-hour shifts is preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete production documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to learn.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk throughout a 12-hour shift.
• Ability to navigate stairs and work around industrial machinery.
• Occasional work in confined or constricted spaces.
• Manual lifting and movement of materials.
• Ability to tolerate a manufacturing environment that includes heavy industrial equipment, high-speed machinery, odors, noise, and dust.
