Position Summary
Repairs, installs, and performs preventive maintenance on substation and water pumping station equipment.

$56.24 PER HOUR
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair and perform preventive maintenance on breakers, transformers, switchgear and other equipment within substation and water pumping stations. *
- Install or replace breakers, transformers, switchgear, and other equipment within substations. *
- Maintain, test and replace, when necessary, substation batteries. *
- Perform wiring and electrical maintenance as required. *
- Maintain system oil circuit reclosers/switches. *
- Maintain and repair substation heating and air conditioning. *
- Install and service primary metering within substations. *
- Install and adjust all types of high voltage disconnect switches. *
- Build and maintain steel structures. *
- Connect and tape high voltage connections in substations. *
- Operate and maintain oil filter truck as required. *
- Handles domestic, special, and hazardous waste generated from work activities safely and appropriately. *
- Perform other work when requested, where the particular skills of the substation’s crews are needed.

Education / Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED required and be a Journeyman Lineman.
- Home study course materials and the on-the-job training to be provided by BPU.
- Incumbent must be willing to attend school and study on own time and have a good attendance and safety record; and the ability to oversee a crew.
- Able to read and understand substation drawings.
- Incumbent must be able to work overtime, holidays, and regular days off as required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as required by the state of Kansas for vehicle(s) operated.
- Must have knowledge and ability to install and maintain various types of equipment used within substations and water pumping stations.
- Incumbent must be skilled in operating test equipment, i.e., volt/ohm meter, battery load test set, clamp on ammeter, hot line tester, hydrometer, megger, microohm meter, TTR machine and related equipment.
