4.5 hours per day, 4 days per week

Scope of Responsibilities
To provide instruction to students for the summer program at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. Basic Education (Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies )
Performance Responsibilities
- Assess the academic needs of each student.
- Develop and update a Learning Plan for students to complete his/her educational goal.
- Create lessons that correlate instructional level and group instruction.
- Provide students learning and soft skills for employability.
- Maintain records of student’s progress and participation using attendance sheets, learning plans, and state-required assessments for progress and improvement and post-tests.
- Use various instructional methods, materials, and tools to tailor learning for student and group learning.
- Assist JHS Leader with the implementation of positive, responsible behavior strategies.
- Perform other duties as directed by JHS Leader.
Minimum Qualifications
- A valid Michigan secondary certification
- Knowledge of the characteristics of JHS learners
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Experience in developing individualized educational or learning plans
- Experience in administering formal assessments for student skill evaluation
- Ability to work in a program that requires interaction with other employees.
- Ability to interact successfully with a diverse population of students.
- Technology/computer usage.
Desirable Qualifications
- A minimum of three years teaching students
- Successful experience teaching reading and mathematics
- Experienced and certified in Special Education experience.
- Experience working with incarcerated persons.
- Experience with JHS curriculum and testing process
- Training in learning styles, differentiated and contextualized learning for students
