What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Medical Technologist position at Kahuku Medical Center?
The Lead Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing and analysis on patient specimens to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease. In addition to performing high-complexity testing across laboratory disciplines, this role assists the Director of Laboratory with coordination of laboratory operations, quality assurance activities, and workflow oversight. The Lead Medical Technologist supports accurate test results, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with laboratory staff and medical providers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing across disciplines including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood bank, immunology/serology and molecular diagnostics.
- Follows established procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting of results and communicates critical test results to physicians and clinical staff.
- Maintains quality control by performing calibrations, linearities, parallel lot testing, documenting activities, and ensuring test system performance.
- Identifies and resolves issues affecting test accuracy and reports concerns to appropriate laboratory leadership.
- Maintains laboratory documentation and ensures compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
- Assists laboratory staff with troubleshooting testing issues and instrument performance concerns.
- Coordinates laboratory workflow and assists with staff scheduling and daily operations.
- Assists the Director of Laboratory with supply ordering, inventory monitoring, and operational tasks.
- Supports staff competency development, training, and adherence to laboratory procedures.
- Maintains access as a superuser for the laboratory information system including the blood bank information system and mentors medical center personnel on their use.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Required:

State of Hawaii Medical Technologist license.

Knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and regulatory requirements.

Strong attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication and teamwork skills in a clinical environment.
Preferred:

Experience in multiple laboratory disciplines.

Membership in a nationally recognized medical professional association.
WORKING CONDITTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
