Position: Mental Health Counselor

Location: Honolulu, HI

Pay: This position has a fixed rate of $36.50/hour

Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical counseling experience.

Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program, OR current Hawaii licensure in good standing as an LMFT, LCSW, or LCMHC from an accredited program.

Type: Full-time; Contract

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm or 8:30am to 5:00pm

Kahu Malama Nurses is seeking a Mental Health Counselor to join a growing and dynamic team!

Job Description

• Provide individual counseling and psychotherapy services to university students.
• Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments as needed.
• Manage an active caseload, including treatment planning, triaging, and referrals to community providers when appropriate.
• Coordinate referrals to off-campus mental health and support resources.
• Participate in campus-wide crisis response efforts and provide debriefing support during university emergencies.
• Develop and facilitate mental health outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops based on student needs.
• Provide consultations to departments including Residence Life, Advising, Campus Ministry, and Academic Affairs.
• Deliver presentations and educational programming to both small and large campus groups.
• Proactively engage students through outreach initiatives that promote wellness and mental health awareness.
• Complete clinical documentation and case notes and utilize electronic health record systems for documentation, scheduling, and reporting.
• Respond professionally and promptly to phone calls, emails, and other correspondence.
• Attend Counseling Center meetings, trainings, and other assigned university meetings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling Services.
  
  

Position Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in individual counseling, short-term therapy, crisis intervention, and case management.
• Experience treating a diverse range of mental health concerns, including: Depression, Anxiety disorders, Substance abuse, Eating disorders, Identity-related concerns, Domestic violence issues, and Other complex mental health conditions
• Experience developing and implementing mental health outreach programming and educational initiatives.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic health records, clinical documentation, and telehealth technology.
• Ability to facilitate presentations and workshops for diverse audiences.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural, and multiethnic academic environment.
• Strong critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and assessment skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
