Paint Digital Engineering Engineer – Robotics / Offline Programming
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Paint Digital Engineering Engineer to support robotic paint process development within an automotive manufacturing environment. This position will focus on creating offline robot programs, supporting digital engineering studies, and optimizing robotic paint applications related to sealer, UBC, dampening coat, primer, basecoat, clearcoat, and interior paint processes.
The selected candidate will work closely with Regional Paint Engineers and plant teams to conduct studies, execute trials, and evaluate robotic processes based on safety, quality, productivity, and cost. This role requires strong communication skills, technical problem-solving ability, and the capability to work independently with minimal direction.
This position reports directly to the Digital Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Create offline robot programs for download into robotic production systems
- Support Paint Digital Engineering (DE) activities and process development
- Develop and support:
- Reach studies
- Cycle time analysis
- Robot feasibility studies
- Support robotic paint applications for:
- Sealer
- UBC (Under Body Coat)
- Dampening coat
- Primer
- Basecoat
- Clearcoat
- Interior paint processes
- Coordinate with Regional Paint Engineers to:
- Conduct engineering studies
- Execute process trials
- Evaluate results based on safety, quality, productivity, and cost
- Lead meetings with related engineering and manufacturing groups
- Create and maintain technical documentation and reports
- Support plant activities and project implementation throughout North America
- Recommend process improvements, product improvements, and cost reduction initiatives
- Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Required Qualifications
- 2-year technical degree with relevant experience OR
- 4-year technical degree with relevant experience OR
- Equivalent hands-on work experience
- Experience with automated robotic paint shop applications
- Experience with Digital Engineering
- Experience with offline robot programming or robotic automation processes
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage time efficiently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kawasaki, FANUC, ABB, or similar robotic systems
- Experience with:
- Reach studies
- Cycle time analysis
- Robot simulation software
- Knowledge of:
- SolidWorks
- 3D CAD software
- Digital manufacturing tools
- Toyota Carrot3 or similar offline programming systems
- Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
- Additional technical or robotics certifications
