What are the responsibilities and job description for the K-House Residential Assistant position at Justice Resource Institute?
JRI’s Youth Harbors program provides services to high school students who are experiencing homelessness. Our staff aim to help these youth survive and thrive by equipping them with the skills and stability they need to graduate high school and transition into adulthood. We provide housing assistance, drop-out prevention services, career development and finical literacy coaching, connections to health care providers, post-graduation planning services, and life skills development. Most importantly, we create a support network around each student providing them the security of knowing that there is always someone they can reach out to for help.
The K-House Residential Assistant (RA) is a volunteer position that will receive a monthly stipend of $500.00 per month. The RA will work with Youth Harbors Program staff to ensure the orderly operation of the K-House residence, enhance communication between the program staff and residents, and to enhance the experience of the residents in the K-House.
Supervision: K-House Case Manager (primary), K-House House Manager, Youth Harbors Program Director.

What You'll Do
Community Building
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive community among residents.
- Organize social, educational, and wellness-based programs and events.
- Encourage student engagement and connection within the residence.
- Rearrange the space to create a welcoming atmosphere and space in the common areas that can be utilize.
- Serve as a resource for residents regarding K-House life, requested materials, and wellness.
- Offer peer support, conflict mediation, and referrals to appropriate services.
- Maintain confidentiality while following protocols.
- Meet with each resident monthly, document meetings.
- Recording and sharing Community Feedback.
- Assist with move-in and move-out processes. Support orientation of new residents.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
- Monthly reports on residents, changes, needs, issues, etc.
- Creating flyers for community events.
- Uphold housing policies and community standards.
- Respond to emergencies and report safety or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Be available within (2) two hours of notice to open doors for locked out residents, vendors needing access, or staff.
- Must be a resident of the K-House in good standing.
