Our client, a well-established, privately held manufacturer, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This role offers broad exposure across general ledger accounting, sales and use tax, and fixed assets, with strong opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative finance organization.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious, and motivated to build technical accounting skills while contributing meaningfully to month-end close and ongoing financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Use Tax
- Prepare, analyze, and file sales and use tax returns for multiple states in accordance with filing deadlines
- Reconcile sales tax system reports to the general ledger and ERP data
- Maintain electronic records for tax filings and customer exemption documentation
- Partner with internal teams (Finance, IT, Sales) to ensure accuracy of tax data and reporting
- Research taxability rules and update tax matrices as needed
- Identify process improvements and efficiencies related to tax and ERP systems
Fixed Asset Accounting
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, disposals, transfers, and retirements
- Record and reconcile monthly depreciation and amortization
- Review capital expenditures to ensure proper capitalization
- Reconcile fixed asset registers to the general ledger
- Track construction-in-progress projects and support timely asset placement into service
General Accounting
- Participate in month-end and year-end close, including accruals and reconciliations
- Analyze and research general ledger accounts
- Support financial reporting and ad hoc analysis
- Assist with additional accounting projects and responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 2 years of experience in an accounting role (sales and use tax exposure strongly preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Experience with ERP systems or sales tax software is a plus, but not required
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
