Position: Crisis Case Manager
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Programs and Operations
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Programs & Operations, the Crisis Case Manager provides support services for Journey Out clients who are victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. The Crisis Case Manager will work at Journey Out Drop-In Centers, remotely, and occasionally in the field.
Responsibilities:
Direct Client Services
· · Provide crisis intervention, case management, and support services to JO clients with an active caseload of approximately 30.
· Provide crisis response and emergency assistance to victims of trafficking to find safe housing/shelter and basic necessities
· Coordinate, facilitate, and otherwise assist clients with basic necessities and transportation as needed
· Provide crisis counseling and emotional support to clients in crisis
· Develop safety plans and danger assessments with clients
· Accompany clients on law enforcement interviews if needed
· Act as liaison and advocate for clients with first responders
· Court accompaniment for clients when testifying
· Client follow-up and monitoring progress within other programs
· Collaborate with housing programs to confirm that clients' needs are being met
· Warm handoff referrals and linkage to community resources
· Link clients to CalVCB for victims’ assistance and lost wages
· Accompany clients through airport security if needed
· Advocate for clients within the criminal justice system, schools, the legal system, social service and community agencies, and other helping professionals
· Foster problem-solving, conflict resolution, and non-violent interactive skills
Hotline and Crisis Calls
· Provide information about Journey Out services and other appropriate referrals to callers.
· Provide triage and crisis response, intervention, and counseling via telephone and in-person.
· Provide danger assessment and safety planning for crisis line callers.
· Identify and report cases of suspected child, elder and dependent abuse.
· Conduct screenings of clients requesting emergency shelter.
· Provide assistance into shelters, emergency hotel stays, and/or transportation to a safe location.
· Enter all call data into database in a timely manner.
Law Enforcement Collaboration
· Develop a good working relationship with law enforcement, acting as a liaison for Journey Out and the clients they serve.
· Collaborate with law enforcement on cases as needed.
Other Responsibilities
· Attend and participate in Journey Out case conference meetings and supervision, and other external meetings as assigned.
· Maintain accurate timesheets and other work-related documents.
· Input accurate and complete client data and required documentation into agency database and into Salesforce for the Crisis To Shelter Program.
· Develop an ongoing referral list of agencies providing appropriate services within the community and share information in case conferences and in written form when requested by supervisor.
· Represent the agency in community speaking engagements and networking opportunities, as assigned.
· Other job duties as assigned.
ADA Job Characteristics:
Work environment is either in the office or in the field. Local travel (driving) is required to meet clients in a safe location, arrange transportation, and visit housing programs throughout Los Angeles, as needed. Lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist, stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back or open lower-level filing drawers, or to retrieve stored items, climb a ladder or stairs, or use an elevator. Sit frequently and/or stand when filing, using copier, etc. Use fine manipulation (hands and wrist) to operate a keyboard, take notes; utilize desk calculator, file and copy documents. Corrected vision to normal range. Speak in normal vocal tone and range, and communicate clearly and concisely to others. Apply normal reasoning and detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties.
Qualifications:
· Persons with lived experience preferred
· BA/BS preferred
· Experience working with clients who have experienced human trafficking, domestic violence, or sexual assault preferred
· Ability to establish rapport and trust with individuals in crisis
· Direct social service experience preferred
· Ability to work both independently and as a team member
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Bilingual/bicultural individual preferred
· Provide a copy of a valid California driver's license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance
· Satisfactory results from DOJ background check (post-employment offer requirement)
Expectations: The candidate is expected to complete a 40-hour Human Trafficking Case Manager/Advocate course as well as Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) 101/102, within their first six months in the position.

This position is a non-exempt, full-time position
Employee must have a valid California driver’s license.
Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks, including Live Scan.
