Position Overview
The After-School Care Coordinator is responsible for providing a safe, structured, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment for students participating in JCA’s after-school care program. This individual will oversee the daily operation of the program, supervise participating students and program staff, communicate with families, and ensure that students are properly accounted for and released only to authorized individuals.
Position Details
Reports To: Campus Director
Status: Part-time, hourly
Schedule: Approximately 3:00–6:00 p.m. on regular school days, with additional planning or administrative time as approved
Pay Range: $17–$19 per hour, depending on experience
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare the after-school care space and be ready to receive students at dismissal.
- Maintain an accurate daily record of student attendance, arrival, and departure.
- Ensure students are released only to authorized parents, guardians, or approved individuals.
- Provide active supervision of students at all times.
- Establish and maintain clear routines and expectations for student behavior.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, including recreation, games, crafts, homework time, and quiet activities.
- Provide students with an approved snack and follow applicable food-safety and allergy procedures.
- Create an environment that reflects JCA’s Christian mission and commitment to hospitality.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding student needs, behavior, injuries, late pickups, or other concerns.
- Address minor student behavior concerns and refer repeated or serious concerns to the Campus Director.
- Provide direction and support to after-school care assistants or student workers.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-student supervision and promptly communicate staffing needs.
- Follow all JCA safety, emergency, transportation, medication, and student-release procedures.
- Ensure the program space is clean, organized, and properly secured at the end of each day.
- Complete incident reports and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Coordinate with the school office regarding enrollment information, family accounts, schedule changes, and approved pickups.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with school-aged children strongly preferred.
- Previous leadership, childcare, ministry, camp, or educational experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise students and respond calmly and appropriately to behavioral or emergency situations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work consistently during scheduled program hours.
- Ability to maintain student, family, and employee confidentiality.
- Willingness to complete required background checks and training.
- CPR, First Aid, mandatory reporter, or other applicable certifications must be obtained and maintained as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the program area for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or move supplies and equipment weighing approximately 25 pounds.
- Ability to respond quickly during student, safety, or emergency situations.
